Just wondering does any one else have this ? I only really noticed this last year when i was introduced to my new Rheumatoid consultant ( my old consultant retired last year ) and when going through all my problems he said ... its affecting your cheek bone, i said is it ! last summer is when i noticed if i wore sun glasses i was left with a mark on the right side of my face where the arm of the glasses touched my face,
it kicked off last night, i had a feeling of pressure on temple and cheek bone so i put a bag of peas on it and took some painkillers , does any one else suffer with this and what can be do to help , this has me really worried my face is going to be deformed like my hands.

Hi sophie

I do get this, I have found "Phorpain" gel helps. You can get it on prescription.

just rub it in when you need to!

this gives some more info:

Jenni

PS. Those vibrating wands with infrared on the jaw joint/ cheek can also soothe.

It could be to do with TMJ, which is when your jawbone is affected, not sure if this is related directly to RA. I have this problem, it gives me headaches, and my cheeks and temples are painful. It seems to come and go. I just carry on taking painkillers, sometimes my cheek/jaw seems to be swollen.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sophie,
Sorry to hear you now have another problem.
If it continues perhaps you should see your GP just to check it out.
Hope it eases for you soon.
Love, Doreen xx

Thanks Jenni i will definitely ask doctor for some of that Phorpain gel ive never heard of it before , Lyn2 mine seems to come and go every so often too but it doesn't hurt my jaw just cheek, temple and round the eye and only one side of my face is affected. Doreen i did go the doctors about it a couple of months ago as i had rang the rheumy nurse and she said go to docs and to dentist to make sure it wasnt an abscess or infection, doctor didn't know what it was and told me to ring hospital, dentist x ray-ed my teeth and said there was nothing wrong with them as this all took a couple of days to get appointments my face had gone down so when i rang rheumy nurse back she just said oh if its gone down now you dont need to be seem, i was in clinic in December but only seen a registrar and i had a list of concerns i told her about but my face was not one of them as it hasn't worried me in a good while if it swells again i will ring them .

Aw I am sorry you have face pain Sophie.

Perhaps you need to ask the GP for another appointment with the rheumy? Or at least have the nurse look at it?

I do have jaw pain but not exactly in the face. Do you tense up alot?

Much love,

Amanda

Hi Sophie

Last time I saw the dentist, he examined my jaw and said it was TMJ. He said I could have a gum shield made that MIGHT help, it would cost £200! I haven't done anything about it, if it didn't work it would be a terrible waste of money.

Hi Sophie,
It looks as if it probably is RA then doesn't it if you've ruled out dental abscess etc?
It must be very painful for you, I think that's the best thing to do, ring the rheumy nurse when it swells again and hope they will see you when it's swollen.

Hi Sophie

I can't help with this one, I'm afraid but I am sorry you are having this trouble. Really hope it resolves soon, but you have had some good advice from fellow sufferers.

Take care

Hi Sophie - that sounds really unpleasant. I would ring the rheumy nurse just to check if they will have a look at it.

Hi Sophie, Suffer from this myself, even before the onset of my arthritis, I saw my gp who put me on a tablet called carbamazepine which is a anti depressant,(I must say here that I can only take paracetamol for pain, cocodamol gives me tension headaches and anything with an opiate makes me itch to the point of drawing blood), but in low doses calms down the nerves in the face,Taking away the pain, I still get the swelling but the pain is a lot less now and though I sometimes think that I rattle when I move, this is one tablet I would not be happy not taking. I was also checked for temporal arthritis.

Hope this may help you, John.

Hi Sophie sorry you are suffering with this, but glad you have brought this up. Just lately i have been waking up with pain in my jaw and i can feel/hear it grating when i move it. I will ring hosp about it if it gets any worse, but wondered if the cold weather was affecting it.

Sorry you are having this. Could you take a phot to show the consultant or nurse next time? These things do have a way of disappearing at appt time!

I must say I am suffering from this at the moment and I thought it was my jaw? Hope you get sorted.
